Sunday Afternoon World Music Concert Series @ Harvard’s Sackler Museum
Now you can enjoy live world music each and every 1st Sunday of the month at the Arthur M. Sackler Museum on the campus of Harvard University. The First Sunday World Music Concert Series promises to showcase music from a different culture of the world each week.
Next month’s feature is a local band by the name of Choro Democratico. As their name implies, they perform a Brazilian genre of music called choro, which originated in Rio de Janiero during the 1870’s. It is essentially a Brazilian version of European popular dance music combined with Afro-Brazilian rhythms. OK, at this point, if you want a further explanation of the genre, you can get a brief version or a more lengthy one. Choro Democratico performs in both traditional and contemporary choro styles, including some of their very own original compositions. Listen and enjoy!
