Experience Global Fusion in It’s Truest Sense with Atlas Soul – Saturday, October 10th @ 9:00 p.m.

Listen to Atlas Soul.

Atlas 3Atlas Soul takes the genre of world fusion to new heights. This widely acclaimed global fusion band performs both nationally and internationally and has shared the stage with the likes of Lady Smith Black Mambazo, Gigi, and other world music stars. Luckily for Bostonians, they perform regularly on the local scene as well.  Their motto “World music for world peace” (which is mine as well) is exemplified by their culturally diverse membership. This six piece band hails originally from eight countries including: Tunisia, Morocco, Israel, France, Cuba, Lebanon, Italy, and the US. Blend all of this musical world heritage together, and you have one fantastic global fusion ensemble! Geographically speaking, their music most heavily represents Africa, the Mediterranean, and the Middle East and they perform vocals in six languages including Arabic, Spanish, Italian, Hebrew, French, and English. The band’s overall sound isAtlas8 heavily influenced by jazz and funk and they proudly and most rightfully claimed to have incorporated many diverse styles and genres into the mix, among them, Afrobeat, Rai, Shaabi, D&B, Gnawa, West African highlife, Socca, Reggae, Jungle, Samba, and good old Rock ‘n roll. Furthermore, after reading the music reviews, I might also add flamenco, French hip hop, and Rap to this list.  Whew! In addition to all this musical interest, Atlas Soul is considered among fans to be quite an awesome dance band as well.

The band’s list of awards and other accolades are to numerous to mention in their entirety here, but you can visit them on MySpace or  their official band web site for the details. Among their magazine reviewers, Global Rhythm, a leading international world music publication, is most notable. Aside from being featured in print, Atlas Soul has twice made it onto their monthly compilation cd. They have also received favorable reviews on the Afropop Worldwide web site, a major voice for African music. Of the many award contests which they have entered, they have either won or been honored as finalists in almost every one of them. They were winners in the Global Rhythm Song and Independent Music Awards and nominees in numerous other contests including, the Boston Music Awards and the Billboard Song Contest.  Last, but not least, they have received rave reviews from radio djs worldwide, been featured on world music compilation cds issued by major record labels, and are soon to see their music aired on TV as part of a show’s soundtrack.
