Celebrate Irish Culture through Music and Dance with the Irish Cultural Centre of New England
Founded in 1999 and located in nearby Canton, Mass., the Irish Cultural Centre of New England has been bringing quality Irish programming and events for all ages to the local region. Happily, a large part of this activity is centered around music and dance. Not just a single building, the center also includes an outdoor activity tent and patio, sports fields, and a children’s play area, while plans for further expansion are underway. There’s even a library which houses a collection of music cds amongst other materials.
For the world music enthusiast’s purposes, events and activities held at the center include indoor and outdoor concerts, weekly jam sessions (in an informal tavern-like atmosphere featuring local musicians and amateur play-alongs), lessons for learners of Irish dance, singing, folk songs, and traditional instruments, dance parties, and more. The grandest event of the year, however, is the annual Irish Festival held every September. It is the largest event of its kind on the East Coast and features both local and international musicians and dancers showcasing all types of Irish music from traditional to contemporary genres. You can check out their calendar of events, many with nominal entrance fees, to see what is currently going on at the center.
The best way to keep informed however, is to sign up for their email newsletter or better yet, become a member of the organization and receive additional benefits. Don’t miss out on all the great musical benefits this fine Irish cultural institution has to offer.
