The LearnQuest Academy of Music is sponsoring its 5th annual LearnQuest Indian Classical Music Conference. This event attracts some of the genre’s finest performers, both well-known stars and up-and-coming talent, to its stage. (“swarmanch”) Attendees can enjoy five days of first-rate performances of both Hindustani and Carnatic music which are geared toward entertaining the well seasoned Indian music scholar as well as the genuinely interested and curious audience member. (This would be me!)

Music events of this nature are considered to be an essential part of the total classical music experience in India. With this in mind, it is the conference organizers’ mission to introduce this most valuable concert setting to North American audiences. A broad range of individual styles of classical Indian music will be presented, originating from many schools (“gharanas”) of musical thought. Audiences will be treated to both vocal and instrumental performances on or accompanied by a wide variety of ethnic instruments including the veena, sitar, tabla, harmonium and others. This year’s festivities honor the great Ustad Ali Akbar Khan who passed away last year. The sarod virtuoso’s son Alam Khan and leading authority on the master’s teachings George Ruckert will conduct conference sessions on his many contributions to Indian music. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to enjoy the sounds of Indian classical music in a such a highly educational setting.
