Attention! Learn to Folk Dance for Free, Right in the Heart of Downtown Boston: Tuesday Evenings in July (7:30 – 10:00 p.m.)
That’s right, international folk dance lessons will be given absolutely free of charge during the month of July in Copley Square. Come gather ’round the fountain in front of Trinity Church and dance your heart out to the tune of live folk music provided by some of Boston’s best folk ensembles. Sponsored by the Folk Arts Center of New England, this grand summer event has been going on since 1971 and is still going strong after almost 40 years! That’s pretty impressive, if you ask me. There’s no experience required, no partner needed, and plenty of dance instruction provided to get you up and moving in no time.
Dances performed originate from all over the world and are of a social group-style nature. Each individual dance lasts anywhere from 2 t0 5 minutes and tempos vary. For more info about the nature of this type of event, visit FAC’s helpful web page. If you view the videos provided, you will get an even better idea of just what to expect. I know what you definitely can expect from this event and that is great music for your listening and dancing pleasure, competent and enthusiastic instruction, and a whole lot of fun.
