Catch the Waves and the Spirit! Hit the High Seas with Reggae Stars Groundation: August 23rd, Monday @ 7:00 p.m.
It’s summertime and there’s world music on the high seas. I like it! Just in case you happen to miss the previous reggae cruise, posted back in July, or you actually went and had such a great time that you want more, well here’s your big chance once again. Join roots reggae fusion sensations Groundation in what promises to be and evening of high energy. The band’s motto reads “Music is the most high”. I, myself, definitely can’t argue with that! They have been in action since 1998 and have developed into international stars, having just come off a gigantic tour in 2009, of 100 appearances which spanned 50,000 miles of the globe both in the US and abroad. So, its not at all surprising that they are ranked tops as far as American-based reggae bands are concerned.
This band takes the originality of their music style very seriously and have thus produced their own truly unique brand of fusion, which is a combination of the spiritually infused genre of roots reggae, jazz, funk, and what they term transcendental dub. Despite its uniqueness however, the music still retains a recognizable quality that audiences can easily relate too. Groundation’s membership consists of a full cast of highly accomplished musicians on vocals, guitar, bass, keyboards, brass, sax, and percussion. Together they deliver a sound that is just bursting with energy.
The band takes its name from a traditional Rastafarian ceremony “grounation” which honors the power of music to heavily influence one’s meditative state. Their music is designed to heighten the consciousness of all who hear it, in a spirit of goodwill and global unity. Well, as a listener, in my book it doesn’t get any better than that! We all must continue to encourage world peace in whatever way we can. Kudos to you Groundation!!!
For more info on Groundation, you can visit their official website. Thus far, they have recorded 6 cds. Check them out on Myspace to hear samples of their wonderful sound and then … check them out in person on what looks to be one great cruising experience. The group Ola Mawana opens the show.
