Explore the Rich Musical Traditions of Quebec, Newfoundland, Ireland, France and Scandinavia with a Fresh New Perspective in an Evening with Nightingale: August 28th, Saturday @ 8:00 p.m.
Nightingale is Becky Tracy (fiddle), Jeremiah McLane, (piano and accordion), and Keith Murphy (guitar, mandolin, foot percussion and vocals), each of whom have enjoyed successful solo careers as well with the group. For over 15 years, they have been successfully enhancing the rich musical traditions of Celtic and other genres of Quebec, Newfoundland, Ireland, France, and Scandinavia, with their own highly original performance interpretations. The nightingale has appeared constantly as a theme in many a folk song from these areas of the world, hence the group’s name. Although the ensemble’s playing style is distinctly progressive, it still manages to portray a truly traditional sound to the audience. The total musical package is further enhanced by its prominent rhythmic character, reminiscent of the days when Nightingale was largely considered a dance band. However no longer the case, the group currently performs at both major and minor events of all kinds, and has previously toured heavily, both in the US and abroad. They have been featured in Sing Out magazine and on Canadian radio amongst other accolades. To learn more, you can visit their website and have a look around. To see a list of their cds along with listening samples, visit them on Myspace. Hopefully however, you will take this opportunity to experience them live and in person.
