Attention!!! Free lessons being offered at the September Open House (see details following this post)

The Dance Complex, located in Cambridge’s Central Square, is an all-volunteer organization which promotes the art of dance in the Boston area. The recipient of numerous awards, it is run entirely by artists, and acts as a multi-faceted support center for dance professionals and enthusiasts alike. As I have pointed out so many times before, if you are looking for a way to enhance your world music listening experience, than learning some great ethnic dance moves is a good way to do it.

The Dance Complex currently employs over 60 instructors who are engaged in teaching dance forms from over 20 countries. From a world dance perspective, this broad global spectrum includes genres originating from Africa, Cuba, India, Haiti, Spain, Latin America, and the Middle East. You can try your hand at tango, salsa, flamenco, belly dance, samba, Bollywood or classical Indian dances, and more. If you want to throw a little fitness into the mix than you can try your hand at Zumba. There are also classes for kids too. Most classes are ongoing and allow for drop-ins- always a  welcome feature in my book. Costs range from $6 to $15 per session and if that doesn’t fit your budget, then you can even arrange to volunteer your time in exchange for some free lessonsIf you are willing to make a bigger commitment in advance, then you can take advantage of the special workshops being offered from time to time. You can even give the gift of dance to someone else by purchasing one of their gift certificates. For more info on the instruction program or to view postings of special performances given on the premises from time to time visit their website or call 617-547-9363 .

If you have any interest in instruction at all, I would highly recommend that you attend the Dance Complex’s upcoming Open House. (see details below) And who knows … you might just get hooked on the idea of taking up some dance lessons on a regular, or even not so regular, basis. It’s free so come on, what do you have to lose?
